SO

I was just thinking about my movies/moods -post. There are really so many more movies that have an incredibly strong individual vibe going on during the entire film. It may change along the way, but it’s still there. Most of the movies in the post were just films that have very impressive shots, but the vibe might not be as strong as in other films. So here is a list of some movies I think really have an incredibly strong atmosphere, either visual or audial. In fact so strong that every time you think of the movie you can actually feel the same weird way you did whilst watching it.

1. The Virgin Suicides (This goes without saying. Most of S. Coppola’s movies have a very strong vibe. VS has this feeling of a sort of warped-up innocence swirling into deeper and deeper darkness and also a strong sense of mystery within the whole film. The use of Air’s music, soft lighting and incredible design + cinematography make this movie definitely one of the most atmospheric.

2. Punch-Drunk Love. Definitely. Anyone whom has ever seen this movie would agree. The sense of something bad happening soon is present the entire time.

3. Dancer in the Dark. Lars von Trier’s movies are always extremely vibe-y. I chose Dancer in the Dark because watching this film the first time I felt like crying throughout. The audience feels such empathy towards the main character Selma (played by Björk). The feeling of helplessness, corruption and injustice is almost overwhelming. Also, the film was shot using DV-cameras, which gives it an entirely new kind of realistic and raw feel to it.

4. Blue Velvet.

5. Pocahontas.

6. Elephant

7. Napoleon Dynamite

8. Drive

9. The New World.

10. La piel que habito

+Godard’s films (in a shattered kind of way)

This is probably completely pointless since no one will ever read this crappy blog, but I thought I’d write some random (more or less-) facts about myself. I normally hate describing myself, but I think writing (especially during a three-hour long lecture on the Osmann Empire) is easier than actually mouthing the words.

I feel ridiculous already, but here goes nothing:

I turn nineteen in exactly 18 days. I’m finnish-american. Actually I’m genetically 1/4 Greek, 1/4 Italian and 2/4 Finnish, not that that makes a difference.

I buy make up obsessively, hardly ever wear any.

I quote movies so often that on top of seeming like a complete douche-bag movie geek I’ll also probably lose my friends if I don’t stop. Last week I quoted my favorite lines from Reservoir Dogs (“Why am I Mr. Pink?” “Cause you’re a faggot, alright?”) and afterwards there was the most awkward silence I have witnessed for a while.

If I would have just one hobby it would probably be gaining weight.

My biggest fears: drowning or being dragged into deep sea, dying in an airplane crash and …getting pregnant….ugh.

I find likable people annoying.

I love crazy old women with obviously dyed orange/bright red hair.

Oh an I also love movies, a lot. Obviously not ones that I don’t enjoy, but that’s a no-brainer so I’ll just stop now.

At night, I like to think of my chronic tinnitus as my own personal robot-beeb.

I love small, intimate, moldy and smokey old movie theaters.

I hate girls who like even bad movies as long as they’re pretty (the movies, that is).

I think people would like me more if I were constantly tipsy.

If a person doesn’t like me I’ll purposely act 1000 times more annoying in their presence and feel unexplainably strong satisfaction later.

The fact above is pretty much the reason a lot of people hate me A LOT.

My drugs of choice are Godard-movies and peanut butter.

I make fun of people who are completely fanatical about certain actors, when I myself am insanely in love with celebrities all the time.

I hardly ever know what I really think of things, but I still comment on them as if I did. I guess my problem is that due to studying philosophy (damn you, philosophy) I see things in so many ways and can’t make up my mind with what option is more right than the other.

I make weird playlists, like Basslines I Wish I Could Get Out Of My Head, Songs To Clap To, When I Was a Middle School Rebel, and Songs I’d Use In a Porno.

I’d like to be a vegetarian just so I could evil-eye 98% of humanity whenever.

I love going to the gym but once I almost passed out during a really intense fitness class and now I’m too embarrassed to go back.

I make up weird reasons not to go to the gym.

I use way too much money on internet shopping, but I love it.

I’d basically rather read a graphic-novel than an actual novel.

I can’t think of anything else right now.
